Last week, and really just Wednesday to Friday, there was an amazing unfolding of events...
Wednesday was the last day for Stephen to submit his rank list for residency programs. We have juggled and prayed and cried (oh wait that was just me) and struggled between San Antonio, Grand Junction, CO, and Tyler. ( This is the picture that all the residency programs received with his application... lookin' sharp thanks to Sloan and Liesl Everett and rugged good looks!)
Here's Stephen in Grand Junction...

So on Wednesday morning, Stephen still didn't have a peace about the decision. That morning he got up, prayed and went about his day... which consisted of finishing his ER rotation, giving a presentation, taking a test and writing a poem for a class. WHEW!!! Then around lunch time... Yes, he did all of that before lunch... God/ the Spirit started to work. He called all the guys from our community group to pray for him... "bear each other's burdens"... and through those guys and the Spirit, Stephen began to have a peace about his rank list and where we were going for residency. It was confirmed even more when he called a med-school buddy to ask him about the rotation he had done at one of the programs. His buddy loved it and said he almost switched to family medicine because of the training he would receive there!
On Thursday, we both had a peace about the residency. We went to our community group that night and it was a powerful time of encouraging each other and challenging each other in our daily walks with God and our spouses. God really used Stephen to love and teach me and our group. At the end of our group time, we stood up to leave and MY WATER BROKE!! Thankfully it wasn't like you always hear about where there's a gallon on water on the floor!
We picked the name Luke for several reasons... Stephen and I were reading through the book of Luke at the time, Luke, the gospel writer was actually Dr. Luke which is where we are in life right now- Stephen is about to be a doctor and he got to deliver little Luke and a few months back, Sarah, my best friend and accountability partner had a dream that I introduced her to our third child, Luke, and Stephen and I immediately liked that name! James is Stephen's granddad's name, his mom's dad, who passed away when she was three years old.
Amy - Your family is just precious! Congrats on the new little guy and best wishes for you and your family on match day! My fiance's brother is in his final year of family practice in Grand Junction and has loved living there with his family. :)
